Hand Over the Reins

One of the hardest things for a leader to do is let someone else take the lead.

We tell ourselves it’s about quality. We want things done correctly. And sometimes, it simply feels faster to do it ourselves.

But often, what keeps us from delegating is something much simpler:

Fear.

What if they make a mistake?

What if they don’t do it the way I would?

The problem is, when everything has to come through you, you become the bottleneck.

Delegation isn’t about giving up responsibility. It’s about giving someone else the opportunity to take responsibility.

Give people clear expectations, the resources they need, and enough room to take ownership.

They may do things differently.

Different doesn’t automatically mean wrong.

When you trust others with more, they have an opportunity to grow—and you create the capacity to focus on what truly requires you.

The Simplifier’s Take

If everything depends on you, you haven’t created capacity. You’ve created dependency.

Start small.

Hand over one responsibility. Be clear about what success looks like. Then give them room to own it.

You don’t have to give up control.

You just have to stop holding every rein.

You don’t grow by doing more yourself. You grow by helping others do more without you.
