Controlling Your Reaction

Life may place challenges, disappointments and unexpected obstacles in our path, but we always have a choice in how we respond. We may not be responsible for everything that happens to us, but we are responsible for the attitude, mindset and actions we choose afterward. Every day presents situations that test our patience, character and perspective. In those moments, we can allow frustration, anger and negativity to take control, or we can choose to remain calm, focused and intentional. The way we respond often determines the direction of the outcome.

When you learn to control your reactions, you begin to take control of your life. A level headed response creates clarity when emotions try to create confusion. It allows you to see opportunities where others only see obstacles and solutions where others only see problems. Your response not only affects your own well being, but also influences the people around you. Be the person who responds with wisdom instead of impulse, faith instead of fear and purpose instead of panic. You cannot control every circumstance, but you can always control the person you choose to be in the middle of it. Your greatest power is not in controlling circumstances but in controlling how you respond to them.
